4th Street

4th Street is increasingly recognized as Long Beach's hotspot for fashion, eclectic film and good food and drinks.

The main corridor stretches from Junipero to Cherry and is easily walkable in the day or evening. Parking is located along the street and in a lot at the corner of Cherry and 4th (look for the chopped Edsel).

Boutiques abound on 'Retro Row.' Most are locally-owned and operated, and offer carefully curated collections of vintage fashions and home furnishings from the 1940s to the 80s. Whether hip sunglasses, Mad Men-inspired suits, eclectic books and art prints, Derby Girl gear or Rockabilly baby onesies, you're likely to find that 'something special' here.

The Art Theatre recently underwent a massive renovation to its original Art Deco design and now offers a range of big box-office hits, indie limited releases, cult classics and lectures.

Portfolio Coffeehouse, consistently rated Long Beach's #1 coffee house and also home to art exhibitions and acousitic music, recently opened Portfolio Annex nex to the Art. The Annex offers hot coffee and cool gelato, and both locations are great for people-watching, reading or working remotely.

Next to the Art you'll find Art du Vin, a wine bar with sumptuous food pairings that make a delicious apertif to any date night film at the Art.

Across from the Art, 4th Street boasts two tasty recent additions, Lola's Mexican Cuisine and Number Nine. We recommend Lola's sopes and chicken ceasar salad, and we love the simple aromatic freshness of Number Nine's chicken pho.

The Center Long Beach, a longtime resident of 4th Street, is a hub for the LGBTQ community. Here you'll find workshops, support groups, a computer lab, HIV testing, teen support programs and more.
