New Deal School: WPA Art in Long Beach Schools
The Long Beach Historical Society presents New Deal Schools - How an Earthquake and the Great Depression Shaped the Future of Long Beach Schools.
Maureen Neeley, Librarian and Kaye Briegel, Ph.D., will discuss the dramatic changes experienced in the LBUSD as it rebuilt devastated schools after a massive 1933 earthquake with the help of New Deal money.
This free presentation will demonstrate how inspirational art and architecture were included in the designs in a way that hadn't been done before or since. The artists who worked on these Long Beach projects are also part of the story. Learn how their careers were affected through their work with the WPA/FAP. This is an opportunity to see these "New Deal Schools" in a new light.
