Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education Meeting
Regular meeting of the LBUSD Board of Education. Voters elect five Board of Education members by geographic area to serve four-year terms. High school students elect a non-voting student representative who sits on the Board.
Regular meetings of the Board are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 5 p.m. in the Community Room of the District Administration Building.
The duties of the Board include adopting the annual budget, approving all expenditures, establishing district policy, authorizing employment of personnel, approving textbooks and courses of study, and approving new and innovative academic initiatives.
Board of Education meetings are televised in Long Beach and Signal Hill on Channel 96 and in Lakewood on Channel 35.
Verizon FiOS carries meetings on Channel 47 in Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and surrounding communities. Broadcast times on those channels are noon and midnight on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Meetings also are televised in Avalon, Catalina Island on Channel 49 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. or immediately following the City Council broadcast.
